Cypress Hills National Cemetery
Survey Support for Rostrum, Wall & Fence Restoration
Cypress Hills National Cemetery
Brooklyn, NY
(2022)
Honor Engineer Company provided land surveying services as a subconsultant for the restoration of the rostrum, wall, and fence at Cypress Hills National Cemetery. The boundary survey covered property lines, walls, structures, utilities, trees, curbs, pavements, and other essential features to support the restoration project. Key surveyed areas included the perimeter wall along the west and north edges, the rostrum building, adjoining sidewalks, steps, curbs, and the construction access path. The survey specifications extended 10 feet outside and inside the perimeter wall, ensuring coverage up to the nearest headstones and beyond critical structures. The survey also documented grade levels, finished floors, roof levels, memorials, headstones, and drainage structures. During the project, it was discovered that an adjacent 4-acre parcel, historically considered part of a New York City park, was actually owned by the National Cemetery Administration. This parcel could potentially provide space for 10,000 to 40,000 additional interments in the densely populated urban area.
