Jared C. Hockenberry, PE, CPESC
Biography
While pursuing his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech, Jared worked as an engineering trainee at the Federal Highway Administration through the cooperative education program. He gained valuable experience working in the field at various national parks using automated roadway analysis tools, first-generation GPS equipment and assisting with subsurface investigations. He was “rewarded” with a data-gathering trip to the Virgin Islands National Park based on his unique skills with the GPS equipment.
Upon graduation with honors, Jared started his full-time career with Kimley-Horn and Associates in Vero Beach, FL. He grew from staff engineer to project manager while leading development programs for national brands such as Murphy Oil USA, Bob Evans Restaurants and Century Realty Funds. After seven years of continuous growth, including gaining licensure as Professional Engineer in Florida, Jared was asked to relocate to the Rancho Cordova, CA office of Kimley-Horn to help grow the land development practice. He continued his client service for entities such as Walmart and Thomas Enterprises while also becoming licensed in California as a Professional Engineer and nationally as a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control.
After starting a family in California, Jared decided to return to his home state of Pennsylvania to continue his career. His client management and stormwater experience led him to work with Commonwealth Engineering and Technology, later becoming GHD, in Harrisburg, PA. Based on the company’s focus on water and wastewater services, Jared began serving multiple municipal clients as project manager and appointed engineer. He acquired licensure as a Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and became active in professional associations, which earned him the Golden Rain Drop award from the Pennsylvania Water Environment Association.
Jared subsequently left the consulting industry to work for East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, as the Township Engineer and Director of Public Works. He was responsible for all aspects of the Township’s roads, parks, stormwater and wastewater infrastructure, including budgets, labor supervision and project design and construction. Additionally, Jared handled frequent service requests from citizens and review and recommendations for subdivision and land development plans. He expanded his responsibilities as engineer for the reinstated East Pennsboro Township Authority, which is tasked with ensuring compliance with current MS4 requirements.
Jared is now the Director of Engineering at Honor Engineer Co. He is a Professional Engineer in the states of California, Maryland and Pennsylvania, and is a shareholder of the firm.
