Providence VAMC – Stormwater & Sewer Utilities Investigation
Project Overview
Honor Engineer Company provided surveying, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), and water/wastewater engineering services for the investigation of existing stormwater and sanitary sewer utilities at the Providence VA Medical Center. The project included system inventory, condition assessment, and development of a GIS-based dataset to support facility planning and infrastructure improvements.
Key Challenges & Solutions
The project required comprehensive identification, mapping, and evaluation of underground utility systems across an active medical campus. Honor, in coordination with project partners, performed Quality Level B SUE in accordance with CI/ASCE 38-02 standards to designate and locate potable water, stormwater, and sanitary sewer infrastructure.
Field investigations included visual inspections to document system deficiencies, failures, and operational concerns. Survey-accurate spatial data (X, Y, Z) and GIS integration were used to compile utility mapping, inspection reports, and tabulated data to support cost evaluations and future repair or replacement planning.
